See You Next Wednesday

I went to Supanova.
There were many anime fans;

and Star Wars fans.

Bela, Emma, Gavin, James, Linda, Mark, Shaiyena and Simon also went.

I had plenty of fun.

Back to work.

An email at work announcing a new era of timely email service now the firewall has been updated also heralded an unprecedented number of my bookmarks becoming "403 Forbidden" screens. I have had to resort to blogging from home, which means weekly if I'm good.

Red Lightning.*

Last night Dave, Jimbo, Simon and I played Primetime Adventures. It was fun and funny, quite a lot of self control was required to keep beverages out of noses. Our television show is called "The Last Prophecy" and we will be playing the pilot next week. Our protagonists are the new Department of Portents staff, replacing the corrupt civil servants who were exploiting the King's desire for prophetic advantage to fund their gravy train.

The head of the DoP is Konrad, a stoic Captain of the Guard who blew the whistle on the previous regime and was rewarded for his diligence with the thankless task of resurrecting the disreputable office. He is joined by Kurt von Stahk, a foppish aristocrat whose rising career has been maliciously sidetracked into the department by a conniving uncle; and Phoebe Avonova, a former cat burglar who was saved from the gallows by an amazing portent and has become a firm believer in the power of the Last Prophecy.

*A working title - remember it for the trivia quiz.

Important information.

Did I mention how much fun it is when Emma visits? Because it is remarkable how much fun it is when she does. (She's back at Pirate Cove now.)

Floyd Pepper and the Spiders from Koozbane.

The Electric Mayhem are performing on the next Muppet Show. They are doing a new song and wanted to make suggestions for dressing the set appropriately. Which was all good until Zoot noticed Animal's drum kit was on a dais. Janice thought putting Animal's drum kit on a dais was "groovy". It's the same dais Animal's drum kit has been on for every other show they have done, only this time they noticed it. Now their set dressing includes Doctor Teeth and his keyboard on a dais at the front of the band. This requires a new set to be built and structural work for part of the stage. And he will block the band. Janice said it would be "groovy" if the band wasn't blocked, then they all left. I expect they won't be disappointed when they end up on the same old set they always get. I expect they will have forgotten their grand plan and everything will be just "groovy".

Who won the footy?

I bumped into Emma and Gavin in town on Saturday which was a blissful surprise, and a tad awkward as I had Gavin's newly purchased birthday present in my hand. (A bag? No thank you kind shopkeeper, there's quite enough packaging here already, I think I can manage without a bag today.) Fortunately Emma is eminently huggable even with Doctor Doom held behind your back. (Later that same day Doctor Who started the two-episode season finale.) We all visited Shy with James on Sunday for a twelve hour Dungeons & Dragons game which was creative, inspired, stimulating and great fun, too. So we all got together again on Monday at Gavin's for a Munchkin game before Emma and I joined Dave, Jimbo and Simon for a first go at Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. More fun was had, which was a good sign because tonight we get back together for another stretch of the World's Longest Corridor.

This may not sound like the snappiest line from 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), but it evidently caught the imagination of John Landis, who has worked references to a mythical film of this name into most of his own movies - memorably as the grotty British skinflick watched by an assortment of lycanthropes and zombies in the climax of An American Werewolf in Paris [sic] (1981).
