Oh, dear.
I missed another job application. I thought I had a week, but they were due yesterday. I could try to hand my application in late, but I don't have the two written referee reports either. Also, I can't find my previous applications so this one will be written from scratch (which will take a week). I shall write it so I can use it next time, and because I cleared my schedule yesterday so I could work on it today. At least I don't have a deadline.

Several times I have only become aware of a vacancy notice one or two days before the position closes. In these circumstances it is always valuable to have a generic application ready to go (with whatever minor variations are required for the position in question).
Does your place of work require you to have the ref's reports at the time of submission? That's rather sucky. Mine only asks for them if you make it to interview, which is invariably weeks or months after the position closes.

I had three surprises when I started my application this morning. First, it was due yesterday; not next week as I had believed.
Second, they asked for written referee reports; usually only referees' names are required even if you are interviewed.
Third, my folder of previous applications requiring only minor variations has vanished; probably during the last reorganisation when my user drive changed server. (I may have a paper copy at home.)
