Sparrow-Folk
I wore my best shoulder pads to The Newsagency on Saturday, the purple feathered ones. Standing at the back of the room I counted chairs and waved to stars standing in the dressing room doorway at the far end of a hallway. When Fox and Lark performed they rocked the whole world in that little space. They were chirpy and cheeky and funny and loud and brave and strong and not long enough. It's never long enough; I took a chance on my corner near the door to wallow in the ebbing vim, which is a rare pleasure. When I washed up many folk had left and some folk were left: lovely Linda who was accommodating the band in Sydney, ubiquitous Anne, and Juliet's sister-in-law Irene. When the crowd had properly dispersed we had a drink with Juliet and Catherine. Catherine made my shoulder pads. In truth, the purple feathered shoulder pads are my only shoulder pads, and still they are the best.
Triple J's Hottest 100
Until the top five I didn't hear a whole song from beginning to end; I couldn't identify any of them then, nor can I recall them now - I'm not very good at this... We went to a barbecue hosted by Jo's friends Hester, and Craig, where I met many people including Savannah and Dwayne (who may spell their names differently). I almost met some more people at lunch, but they got up to play nice music and sing morose songs. Other people sang opera and Koko sang a karaoke song from the
Frozen soundtrack, which was nice.
Doctor Who
On Sunday the youngest's tolerance for full length episodes of
Doctor Who was proved. Nils's favourite Doctor is the tenth and Koko's favourite Doctor is the eleventh. We watched the ninth Doctor in
Rose (of all the scary Autons the child-sized Autons were the scariest) and
The End of the World which was hard to follow, possibly because attention was waning. On Monday we watched
The Unquiet Dead and that was well received too (although Nils may have been disappointed it was still only the ninth Doctor). I left behind Series One for them to watch as well as the first season of
The Sarah Jane Adventures and the two Dalek movies - that should keep them busy, at least until March.
I drove home listening to my Sparrow-Folk CD, and that was another good weekend.
